This course focuses on the anatomy of the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems.  Students will receive skills training and in-class lectures including anatomy, common sports injuries, basic treatment, rehabilitation protocols, concussion recognition and management as well as taping and bracing procedures. Students are required to perform 15 hours of professional job shadowing outside of regular class time. The job shadow experiences will be arranged by the instructor. Students are responsible for the costs of the required Background Check, Drug Test, TB Skin Test and Flu Shot.
PE162-First Aid & Emergency Response is the course for which the student will receive college credit.
Sports Medicine Prerequisite: Students must pass Biology I (or equivalent) with a “B” or higher and all applicants must then also have a college-level reading score. This can be demonstrated by ACT/SAT scores, a WriterPlacer score of 5-8, or a Reading comprehension score of 70 (scores of 62-69 may be considered by KEC administration).
